I guess my evening really began walking up the wide stairs, the mellow music just floating through down around me, getting louder, but not too loud as I entered the main hall. Some people were still stretching from the Contact Improv class before hand and Kenny was just starting to bring them upright and gyrating. I went up to say hello several times but Kenny’s head was down into the equipment eyes intense. If there were ever a 10.0 performance by Kenny, this was it. He always is on the edge of new mixes, sometimes edgy, sometimes mystical, sometimes even great. Tonight he nailed it.
Many of us know Kenny over the years and had an expectation of his mixes – edgy funk and bass. We brought our ear plugs and were ready for some floor pounding. Tonight Kenny almost defined a new type of night as his mixes were dance-perfect. Everyone danced hard and were mellow at the same time. Like being at a festival of love.
